A DIARY NOTE TO PIKEHANDS 1985

By Bob

After frantic efforts Pikes have determined to hold the family party in February. An ideal decision for which all Pikes are applauded. The theme is ethnic brotherhood hence the choice of venue "The Prince of Orange," Plumstead high street.

A meeting of minds is essential before the fateful day and what better minds than those of Pikes? The fateful day is 22nd by the way. Drinks will be bought over the bar and we can provide our own food. Meet at Graham's house 8.00pm 22-1-86.

Don't forget that following Nick's timely reminder in June (which one?) you should send or phone your nomination for "Pikehand of the Year" direct to Bryan. That is additional nominations as you will have already sent in more than one.

MORE ABOUT THE FAMILY PARTY

The Family Party is now definite for 22nd February 1986 at "The Prince of Orange," Plumstead high street. The cost is is £25.00 each. Graham will hold the money which should be paid to him on the day and not before.

Drinks can be bought over the bar hence anyone may buy and other members can contribute that way. Any monies left over will be re-distibuted to Pikes afterwards. Alternatively it can be put into a fund to help finance future parties. Incidentally, if someone offers to contribute to the cost accept the money and hand it to Graham. A better solution is to suggest that there is one organiser who will be happy to receive donations. Ray has agreed and is nominated.

A Pike "Review" is planned as this year's entertainment. Each Pike must come prepared to give at least two minutes entertainment comprising songs, poems, mimes, music, etc. Acts need not be solo. Graham is linking them together as compare, compair, compear (you know), so you could let him know what you plan.

THE FAMILY PARTY

Dear Pkd
Due to circumstances beyond our control the party venue cannot now be at Ray's pub. Also the proposed date of early October is felt not a satisfactory arrangement for Alan and Claire. Furthermore alternative booking at short notice has proven fruitless.

It is suggested that the date be definitely arranged for early in the new year. Saturday 8th February 1986 seems the best time and the venue to be more central at Bryan's club. The estimated total cost to each Pike would be £30.

Early booking is essential if the club or other venue is to be used. You must hence respond to this notice without delay to Bob. It is intended to make a positive booking on Friday 27th September.

A NEWS LETTER SENT TO PIKES IN 1985

Dear Pkd
Since the recent circular regarding the Family Party the minutes of the 1985 AGM have been read by one and all. Resolution numbers 7-8-9-10/1 were passed. In effect the party as an ongoing annual affair was agreed but the burden of cost to Pikehands was to be shared. Two broad concepts are hence possible:-

  1. Hold a party and make a charge for each person attending. Say £3 - £4
  2. That Pikehands provide the venue with a buffett meal at their expense whilst drinks are bought as desired at a bar.
There are further variation of course.

Following the usual overwhelming response it is proposed to continue with booking Bryan's club for 8th February 1986 and to hold a meeting at Graham's house on 10th October 1985 at 8.00pm to finalise the finance arrangments etc.

Note that those who have been too busy to nominate a candidate for PoY can do so at any time.

All the usual family are invited and it is up to Pikehands to let everyone know and attend the meeting with as much information as possible. Some may not be able to attend the Booze meeting so they must ensure that their wishes are presented by a more fortunate inebriate individual. This can be done by post, busby or by pidgeon dropping.
