My Dear Valerie and Nick,
Finally I just wanted you to know that the Donations that were sent in memory of my Ken amounted to £1022. Thank you both for your support and helping us to get through the day. I have said before, I am so lucky to be part of this lovely family. I am enclosing a letter we received after Alan and I handed in the cheque to the hospital. You can see the money will be put to good use. At the moment I am at Evelyn's and will be here for two weeks.
I send to you all much love and thank you from us all for your support. I do hope you are all well and happy.

Transcript of letter from Hospital ---- May 1991
Dear Mrs. Wilkins,
Thank you so much for calling yesterday with your son, and bringing along a very generous donation totalling £1022. for the League of Friends, in memory of your late husband Kenneth.
You will in fact, receive a receipt for the full amount from the League as the Treasurer informed me that the bank will accept cheques on their behalf even if made out to the hospital, and it simplifies the paper work if the money is in one account.
We are looking at three options to use this donation for Carngie Ward:-
- to purchase a Mecanaids Dextra Hoist
- to purchase an Astec Alternating Pressure Bed or similar, to help alleviate patients' pressure areas
- to purchase new chairs for the patients. We have two on trial at present and will be looking at alternatives to give a variety on the ward.
When we have decided with Sister Macmillan, the best use of the donation, the purchase will be made through the League of Friends, which means we do not pay VAT. I will write again and let you know our final decision. Perhaps you could let me know sometime if you would like a small plaque attached indicating the item selected has been purchased in memory of you husband.
