THANK YOU VERA
Thanks ---- By Nick.C ---- Groton 1987
What a nerve! What a cheek!
Said Vera putting down the phone the other week
I move out for you lot all to have a bevvy
She moved towards Bob looking pretty heavy
Give up my bed! Give up my house!
Lifting him by his lapels, "I think your a louse!"
"But dearest my petal," these words he did choke
"Look at it this way," he tried to joke
It's just like a party for some of your kin
But when you arrive they won't let you in
You could go down to Sandra she'll put you up
Then your husband and son inlaw can have a sup
Your son he's an organiser he'll act as steward
he's worked in a bar but now he's cured
Then there's Nick a steady sort of guy
All right I know he's got a tattoo on his thigh
But we're all grown men now they'll look after our place
By now Bob was was really quite red in the face
Alright! I'll go! but you'll have to do penance
That's after you've been and got rid of your tenants
They looked so trendy on the patio and lawn
Now they're trying to have a technicolor yawn
So Bob to the floor did his feet touch again
The colour in his face he tried to regain
So on the day or was it the night?
Groton's neighbours were wakened with one hell of a fright
Three cars full of thugs some from London they say
Drew into Tan House the weekend for to stay
A meeting of Tongs or was it the Mafia
I think thay are Welsh then it must be the Taffia
Nothing was smashed and no screaming was heard
A Pikehand weekend? Don't be so absurd
They were in bed by midnight the washing up done
Up bright and early hoovering and dusting in the early morning sun
Even classical music was heard to play
What nice pleasant Pikehands? Have a nice day
Oh what sophistication! See, look they're tasting wine
Oh dear now they are spitting it out what a lack of refine
They watched us act silly all at our expense
But even your neighsours still talk to you over the fence
Vera your a pal one hell of a lass
For what you did puts you top of the class
Maybe we'll ask again? Hey but don't have no fear
Jeff and Raymond are organisers next year.
