Snippet from Pike Archive Wigan 1989
Memories of '81
Pictures rather similar to this were available to the Pikes. There were two callouts, named "tower" and "boat" here but blank on the pictures into which Pikes were to write comments. The other callouts were fixed as reminders of 1981. Pikes were also enabled to enhance with words or sketches of their picture if they were inspired. Only callout comments are shown below.
| Tower Comment | Boat Comment |

| Look! there's Alan, Bryan, Pete and Graham. They're Pikehands you know! | Look! there's four Pikehands. I bet they don't drink Carling Black Label! |
| Yes! Tonight! Salman Rushdie! This is your Life | There were no punts left. This was all I could get. |
| Alright! I admit it --- I do Fart. Now will you let me out? | I still don't see why Nick insisted we bought Passports. It's only the ing Ship Canal!! |
| This is a load of old cryptic that's what I say it is cryptic. I was down the Cryptic Arms yesterday and I said to the barman, "A pint of Ruddles cryptic please." He thought I was taking the crytic so he kicked me right in the cryptics. | Please have your E111s ready. Great I recognise this Pikes '89 is being held in Amsterdam. See you there. Alan thought he was being cryptic but I've got it sussed. Cryptic is a word commonly used round here. |
| If you think this is Paris you must be in Seine. | J'ai dit Tournez gauche a le Havre |
| I'm a swinging bridge! | So what! Pull youself together! |
| Come in number 69. | It's the same either way up. |
| Dock Here!! Pikehand Punt! | I didn't know Doc was a Pike! |
| What's 'E mean will 'T go? It's only a little boat. | 'eres a quid, Chuck. Get a round in and keep T'change. |
| Hello little tug. | Naff off bridge. |
| Well, I found the place alright, but there's one problem though, I'm a year too young be a Pikehand! | Is this the last ferry to Cowes skipper? Aye, it's full of Pikehands so it must be! |
So here is another cartoon with callouts for Pikes to fill in.
| The Shepherd | The Sheep |
|---|---|
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | I keep telling the plonker that baa baa doesn't mean I want my hair cut. |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | And that means ewe! |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | Baa--Baa! |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | I hope it's only wool he's after. Those shears look really inexplicable, latent even secret. There must be another word to cover what I mean. You cryptic BTD I've just found out there's two pages missing. I know where those shears are going to end up. |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | He watches one episode of Neighbours and he thinks he's ing Crocodile Dundee! |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | Shears!? |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | Herded together again. |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | What are you doing with that wellington boot??!! |
| Don't forget Pikes '89 | Yes! There might some decent beer this year! |
| No! Just Jersey Joe Woolcott | I hope you're not the Duke of Wellington! |
| Come her my little ram | Oh 'hit! A queer shepherd |
| This one's a cut above the average | Oh no!! I'd prefer to have the boots on. |
| I'm a Pikehand | Oh God! |
| Hello | But darling I love children. |
