A BRIEF HISTORY OF PIKE WEEKENDS

Memories ---- By Bob ---- 1985

It all came about when a farmer did shout
"OI! Pikehand get off the wall!!"
Though aimed at our Bry
The name suits E and I
And that's how the Pikehands were born

At a cricket club dance we took our first stance
To the strains of the old Bodkin Band
For Ray's painful thumb
Had struck us all dumb
And that's why we gave him the hand

At the town soccer match this phrase we did catch
When a Colchester drunkard called through
"Aye mate what's the score?"
"It'a nil nil! a draw!"
And the fellow then asked us "Who to?"

Two years on the trot South East Essex the spot
When Benfleet became Hollywood
We made movies by day
At night acted some plays
And the film you will see if you're good

At Witham we went where the weekend we spent
In trying to be super stars
Cricket and football
And just the odd pub crawl
Were supported in some fifteen bars

As one of our fads we became under grads
In Cambridge we learned something new
Throw wellies and eggs
And then soakin our legs
On the Cam in a three manned canoe

In Cambridge a paddle in Oxford a saddle
We cycled along country lanes
But peddling on bikes
Is quite sore for us Pikes
We got nothing but aches for our pains

Heroes are plenty and well known to fame
But Pikes only number a few
Henge-Lords are fewer
And Pikes remain puu--er
So Neil may we all welcome you?
